HJSON
JSON that finally allows comments.
Where it came from
HJSON ("Human JSON") grew out of the same frustration that spawned JSON5 and HJSON's siblings: real config files want comments and relaxed quoting, but strict JSON forbids both. HJSON picked the pragmatic middle ground.
It never tried to replace JSON — it compiles down to it. Editors and config loaders decode HJSON, then hand standard JSON to the rest of the stack.
How it works
HJSON relaxes the rules: comments with # or //, unquoted keys, unquoted string values, and multi-line strings. Whitespace is significant like in YAML, but there are no indentation traps.
The conversion is a straight parse → re-serialize to JSON. UWC does HJSON ↔ JSON both ways in the browser, so you can author comfortably and ship strict JSON.
Convert HJSON
Write forgiving HJSON, get strict JSON — or the other way around, locally.
